In the afterlife’s wildest game show, one ghost battles through trials, chaos, and maybe even love — with plenty of laughs along the way.
A competition sponsored by Hell!
If you thought your 9-to-5 was rough, wait until you see what comes after. Hell Bank Presents: Running Ghost (冥通銀行特約:翻生爭霸戰) is one of the most fun, unique, and surprisingly heartfelt Hong Kong movies to hit your screen lately—and it’s now streaming on Viu.
This Cantonese movie blends dark comedy, action, and fantasy in a totally original take on life, death, and everything in between. Whether you’re into action Hong Kong movies or quirky supernatural tales, this one’s a fresh gem among recent HK movies you don’t want to miss.
The story: What is going on!
In Running Ghost, we meet Gui (Wong Yau Nam), a down-on-his-luck office worker with no car, no flat, no girlfriend—and not much motivation either. One ordinary day, he dies… without even knowing how.
When Gui arrives in the afterlife, he’s shocked to find that the queue to reincarnation is longer than a waitlist for public housing. But there’s a catch: the infamous Hell Bank is now sponsoring a wild show Running Ghost (A playful nod to the hit Korean variety show Running Man)
The prize? A second chance at life.
To win, Gui must complete three bizarre, dangerous challenges back in the world of the living. Along the way, he teams up with Kei (Cecilia So), a spirit medium with her own mysterious backstory. Together, they face the trials of life, death, and reality TV, discovering meaning in unexpected places.
This is a film in Hong Kong that doesn’t just entertain—it surprises, uplifts, and makes you think.
